End of the year awards show

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

It's the last episode of 2021 and we wanted to award all the bada$$es in BJJ & MMA. So we created 6 categories for both MMA & BJJ. Rookie of the year, submssion of the year and more.

This is the motivation and of the year show. Let's go. Yes, yes, yes, yes, let's go. How's everybody doing out there? Welcome to Jiujits coast to coast to podcast that talks about what's important on and off the Mat on this episode we're having our end of the year award show for both Bjj and MMA. We got lots going on this episode. We had so much fun doing this episode last year that we decided to run it back. So joining me on today's episode I got my boy Vonso, and back by popular demand, the man, the myth, the legendary homie Eddie contraries. Welcome back, brother. How you doing? Thank you, guys. The for people that requested me to be back have been heard. Thank you so much, gentlemen, for having me. So people they wanted a holy skin hunk back on the air. We have a Holi Skinnli Shi. WHO'S gonna go? We'll let it that out nine. Keep it in man. This is real shit. fucking happy to be here. I can't believe it's been another year. Two Thousand and twenty one one has been a fucking a dude. It's better than last year. For sure. Oh Yeah, for sure. So many good things happen this year, though, you know what I mean, that, despite all the bullishit. So I just want to say thank you for having us here, Eddie, at your house. You guys are always welcomed. Yeah, and Hey, frank, thank you for putting it together. Man, salutiaters, so Fonzo, cheers listener there, for hanging in there with us. We got this little tribute for you here. We've come up with six categories for Jiu Jitsu, six categories for MMA. We each contributed a couple of hovorable mentions and we're each going to pick a winner. With that being said, man, I want to celebrate some personal accomplishments. That not only accomplished for the show but for myself as well. Two Thousand and twenty one, like I just said a little while ago, way, way, better than two thousand and twenty. And if you guys don't mind, let me go first here. I wrote down here things that I want to that I'm particularly happy and excited that we were able to do first live show of the year coming out of Covid we had the awesome Dr Alfonto Tucker and then we have were able to be hosted boke easy down and tower districts. That I was fucking cool, Dude. That was amazing, man. And the support we got from from the spoke easy community and from our friends. That show is pure magic for sure. And our post led to like another three thousand people checking out their stuff on instagram. So out my good yeah, and there were people out there watching and listening. So shoutout man. We had a little audience out there towards the end, so I mean they didn't know that we were doing the show, but they stuck around. I didn't hear any complaint. We did have one complaint from Louisa. She said we were boring. She knows. She said it needed more action. Those were exact words. So other other accomplishments that that were that we got or that I did in two thousand and twenty one I got ATCC tickets. So I be wow, for what thought you're going to say you got a DD I've always had E. OH, okay, all right, and I got to marry my boo, my main squeeze church reception Banda and all Fonto did leave a full glass of Tanga Ray and ice on his table because I went back to the next day to clean up but there was another glass that was completely empty. So I don't know, maybe it was Dan. Yeah, I've been Dan, it wasn't me. So I'll thank you forever for two thousand and twenty one. I'm looking forward to two thousand and twenty two and I'm looking forward to using this momentum to push this show and myself. I did mention a few episodes back that I do want to do. Oh Man, world's awesome, man, so that means I got to get on the Mat Suon. So sitting the buy heart, sitting the bar high for two thousand and twenty two, and let's see what happens. All right, eighty fo who wants to go next? You want me to go? Okay, thank you. Thank you, guys, for having me back. Two Thousand and twenty one was a blur, but God, what a great year. Doing the podcast with you guys was one of the highlights of the year for me, frank and I opened up for the legendary Ian Edwards and Fulton fifty five in front of, Oh yeah, hundred twenty people, which was one of the most amazing moments man, and I'm so grateful for the support that I got from my friends and my family. They...

Yep, they came out to support us. I am so fortunate to have the friends that I have the family that I have. So thank you, guys, for your support. And then the Dr Tucker interview was unbelievable, and so was having arguably the number one ranked submission grappler in the world, Mason Fouler, on and that didn't come without drama. Frank is the the captain of this ship and right before the interview began, Frank's Wifei went out, so Alfonso and I we steered this ship to shore and I thought it was a great interview. We asked a lot of good questions. Mason was so cool to talk to us. Man. I mean this guy one of the top grapplers in the world and gave us local boys at chance to talk to him and to give this show some credence. So thank you, Mason Fowler, for the need to will. He was so fucking down or earth and just super chill about everything. I mean he just really took the time to really answer our questions and and just really just sit down and just talk to us. You know. I mean that was but amazing interview. Yeah, he treated us the same way he treated MMA fightingcom the way, same way he would have treated Luke Tomas, the top guys in the game. He gave us that same respect, man. So thank you, Mason Fowler, for talking to us and we hope to have you back on soon. Big Set. Shout out to Santa Cruz medicinals and Fox fuel, which are sponsors of Mason Fowler. How Fun. So yeah, man, how was your here? Sir Dude, it's been crazy for me too. You know, it's just just continuing this podcasts, like just every time we do try to do some different. We try to just keep on coming in with some good topics and just, you know, entertaining ourselves and hopefully our audience and out there. One of the big things that happened to me this year is, you know, I got married this year to just like frank did. Congratulations. Yeah, thank you, thank you. And who officiated the wedding? That was my boy, my one and only want, Tho cons that has a holi skin hunk. You're one and all's Christina full. That was a Freudian slip of I ever heard. Hey, hey, I said what I said. The other thing that happened to men is I moved to the Central Valley again and I've been gone for like twelve years, something like that. Wonder we had a hot summer. Am Due to parole restrictions, sorry, you and Gordon Right are not allowed. Yeah, man, so that was that was pretty life changing there, you know. I mean like just moving out here and, you know, with my new wife and everything. But it's cool because I get to be closer to you guys and just do this kind of shit more often here. I mean it's one of the things that I've missed being out there. Of course I missed my family, you know, and on the desert. But you know, thank you, guys. Thank you guys. Oh, anytime, dude. Thank you, guys for including me. Yeah, and this journey, this is in this totally just got brought up. I don't know if we should talk about this or me and any we're talking a little bit about this, but fuck it, let's just talk about so earlier in the this week, I'm not sure if you guys out there heard the news, and it's kind of kind of weird, really weird, that it's hasn't had the attention that some of the other events that had been happening in this with this type of news have gotten in the past. So earlier in this year there's a lot of scandal going on with an instructor from fight sport who sexually assaulted a student who was under age. So not only did your raper he was a little kid fuss, kind of seemed like he groomed her and a lot of the bjj community turned on this guy and start trying to find this guy, you know, which is which is good. You know, they shed light on it, they try to make sure that he that people knew who he was and that he somehow was going to get brought to justice, which unfortunately didn't have because I think he's skipped down on his trial and he's not in the states right now. But besides that, an event that happened earlier last week. I just saw a post on JJ world or something like that on Insta and it was a screenshot of a conversation between Ebert Santeles and Gordon Ryan, who have had a history of saying not so much such nice things to each other. Are earlier in this year, I want to say it was around the time when Gordon...

Lost His dad, you know. So Gordon Ryan's dad passed away. He's kind of feeling sad, feeling lonely, and an Ebert start attacking him online and he says something like a I'm gonna kill you and I'm gonna rape your girl. Like, I think totally came out of nowhere, totally uncalled for. I don't know why a lot of wasn't said at that time. I mean I'm barely hearing about this right now and I think that happened like back can march, your April. Fast forward and I don't know when this occurred, but it seems that Gordon did retaliate and showed a picture of Ebirth and Ebert's younger daughter, three year old daughter. Three year old daughter, and Gordon responded by saying Nice. I don't even want to see it, do you, because he turns my stomach. So he made a well, he said that your three year old has a nice ass and I can't wait to have sex with her. No, what the I mean, he is wrong with people. That's crossing the fucking line pedophilia, even joking about pedophilia. It's disgusting. It slewed. There's needs to be punishment, maybe from the promoters, from someone, but you don't go around saying that somebody's three year old has a nice ass and that you want to fucker. It's and this story needs to get out, man. I think it is. For some reason it's not. I know the higher ups, you know the and at ADCC and some of the other organizations that Gordon Ryan is on. I they all know about it. They've been taggling in the post. Some of them have commented, but they're not seeing very much other than you know what. That wasn't right. It was ugly. He shouldn't be saying things like that and that's it. There's no Punishman, nothing. If no wide receiver from the Dallas cowboys would have said something like this, you can pretty much bitch your ass that he'd probably be at a minimum suspended, maybe kicked off the team. I mean, look at grooting. Got Fired for sending booty picks a cheerleaders. I don't know. Well, Gordon Ryan is the Lebron James of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, of submission grappling. Can you imagine if Lebron James said to Stephen Curry, Hey, your three year old daughter has a nice ass, I can't wait to have sex with her and it got out, Lebron would be done, Nike would drop him, all his sponsors would drop in it, and for good reason. Same thing has to happen to Gordon Ryan. Am I wrong, guys, or is there a different perspective on this? I'm with you. No, you're you're right, man. I'm right there with you that. But thank you for bringing it up. Frank he's something that I thought's been getting swept under the rug and with each day that passes it's just creates like another another day, another barrier that's keeping this from getting out. So I mean, yeah, it makes the support look bad. No one wants to hear this, but something has to be said and something should be done about it. But I mean you got to clean up the spore, you know what I mean? If you really care about Amen, can't let people like this just like do whatever the fuck they want it. Well, it's sets a precedent, right, you know, if he says that, is somebody going to up anti is. I just this needs to be nipped in the bud before the sport that I love, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling, becomes poisoned by by other guys that think that it's cooled talk about somebody else's three year old daughter in order to get attention. Hopefully something gets done. We'll see. Only time will tell. Until then, let's let's switch gears and let's get into these awards. Gentlemen, what do you think? How you feel ready to do this great year for mm a man? What can I produced pretty little slide show here. So let's kick it off. Bonzo, I'm not sure you can see from that side, but there's a reflection in the window and I heard there we go. All right. So I want to say that the first category is MMA show of the year. So MMA show of the year for two thousand and twenty one. We have up here UFC two hundred and fifty nine. That was headline by Butleho Bitch is Rada, Sonya, Amanda Nun Yas and Meggian Anderson. Is Not Makachev, drew Dober, Pyodore Yarn Al Jamaine stealing he has remember when? Yes, we also have here two hundred and sixty one, headline by Usman Mozvid all to Wailee, Jang Rose, I'm a Judas to Valentinage a Chink go and Jessica and rush. UFC. What do we got next? That was Rosesang one. Oh, I'm sorry, rose aink...

...one. That was back in. Was that January? February is go back a slide. So two hundred and sixty eight was part two of Noma Junis in Jang. Okay, all right. So then two hundred and sixty eight was Kamara Usman, Kolbe to Rosnama Junas Wailee Jang to Frankie Edgar more than Vera might be a new star in the rising. I love watching him five man, that guy's getting better and better every time he comes out. And then, lastly, UFC. Two hundred and sixty nine, Charles Olivera, Amanda New Ya, Jessica Banya, Gosh who? And you know what honorable mentions. There were some fantastic UFC fight cs that we didn't add in here. We only did UFC pick him shows for the pay per view. So that's kind of why I just stuck to the pay per views. But, Fonzo, what do you what was your favorite show? Bro and that's a tough choices, but I really like two hundred and sixty one. That was my favorite card. I did like seeing who had learned his man. Okay, fucking just knock out George Masvodot was I was that. I mean the card was awesome, but that was like the Cherry on top. That was just an amazing knockout. Beautiful, beautiful, sure, for sure. I remember are going into that card thinking, well, Masbad all did the good the first time they fought. Now he has a full training camp. There's no way useman can hang with this guy now. And Boom, first round, right cross from hell, I mean Hem, poor Mazwad all man. Wow, wow, good pick. If I had to narrow it down to one, I would go with UFC two hundred and sixty eight usman versus Covington. I mean it fucking started out with gage versus Chandler, which might be fight of the year. I mean that was sorry, that was such a back and fourth battle. It was. I mean, these guys just beat the shit out of each other. It was yeah, it was a wild west boxing match for fifteen fucking minutes. I think gage dropped Chandler a total of five times and Chandler dropped gage a total of three times. If you have not seen that fight, do yourself a favor and go see that fight. And then Usman versus Covington was fucking classic. That was a war. I thought it was over in the second round when Usman dropped Covington twice. Covington then just came back. Oh Yeah, say what you want about him, man, about his fake character. That guy has fucking heart and he's got balls the size of grape fruits. I almost feel bad for bood goes versus Quantio Quad an quite on Thio, because that fight was amazing, but unfortunately had to go on after gayg versus Chandler. Do yourself a favorite. Watch Buoda goes versus quite an quite on Thio. Man, that fight was spectacular. I'm like share with everybody your five pass Password. It is booty shorts, six sixty nine. I love to lick them. But Edgar versus Vera, that was Vera's breakthrough performance. And then now I'm a junas versus Zaying part two, another classic. I mean, Holy Shit, and I'm a Junas. She might be the number one or number two pound four pound female fighter, especially after that fight. And then again useman versus Covington. That was like Berrera versus Marquez. Man, if you're familiar with boxing, just a war. So, for those reasons, my pick is UFC two hundred and sixty eight. What about you? Frank I'M gonna have to go with UFC two hundred and sixty nine, and reasons. So, just because of the main event and the cool main event, Charles Oliver are finally put in a stamp on the lightweight championship and the lightweight division on notice. You know what I mean. I honestly thought that doesn't pourier was going to be able to drag Charles Olvera into the deeper waters, which he did, but Charles survived in he took it and he came back even stronger and not only did he win the fight, he fucking subdom yeah, something like he's been doing every other person that he's been fighting on since he started this crazy winning streak, and he just he did an in crazy dominant fashion. R Dude, Oliver Vera has the most and missions and you have see history. He surpassed the legendary Hoist Gracie. Yeah, amazing, amazing. You know, that was such a great fight. That was like a fund of mentioned a...

...little while ago the Cherry on top and then prior to that, this might be the upset of the year. I mean this could be the upset of the decade. I mean I would compare this to GSP and Matt Sarah One, almost, you know what I mean, like no one saw this, no one saw this coming. I want to say Julianapniel was like a five or six to one underdog. Thirteen to one, hundred thirteen one, oh my God, you know what I mean. And and again she didn't do a five, five round unanimous or five round decision. She fucking put it on her she like drew a line in the middle of the cage and was like cross this line, see what happens. And she did. And every time she crossed that last she's like Bat Dude, throwing that Jab, throwing that crazy right hand. She implemented her game plan to a tea. She made it an ugly light and Amanda was not ready for that. Why did she engage in that? I mean I don't know. I was talking to my wife about this and it reminded me of Amanda now Yez when she fought Cyborg the first time. She just engaged in a slug it out, rock and sock and robot fight. She got caught more times than Amanda and she lost and Cyborg took off to belator and been doing very well for herself. But now it's like it's Karma and it's back and it got new Ye's who knows? Who knows if Juliana can do this nine times out of ten, you know what I mean. But this one night she came out on top. Like I said, could have been, could be one of the major, the biggest upsets of the decade, if not of the year, hands down. Yeah, but it was my favorite card of the year for sure, Dude. And but here's the thing, and I don't know, but it seems like Amanda was just used to being on top, you know what I mean. She had no like, she had no reason to believe this is going to be any different from her last fights, especially after the first round, right. So it just like, you know, she was just got too confident. Maybe I'm excited to see what happens on the rematch. I if Amanda makes some adjustment, she gets better prepared, she takes you down a little bit more seriously, I don't know, but this is going to be a good rematch. I'm excited for next year for this well, show you, guys, ready for Oh and, oh no, I just it reminded me of code or versus Sylvia. You guys remember that fight? Yeah, as in the first round. Well, couldtur lost twice to Chuck Ladell at light heavyweight. He retired and came back to fight. Sylvia had heavyweight for the title. I thought it was a lamb being fed to the lion, but yet coach or pulled it off. Julia, Juliana Painia, did the same thing. Man, the this was buster Douglas Versus Tyson. I mean, Holy Shit, I'm glad I got to witness that. Word for sure. You guys. For the next category. Let's do it. HMM. Next category, fight of the year. Our nominees are Brandon Moreno, Davison, figured at old to, Oh yeah, you're Rodriguez, and Max Holloway, Dad, that was UNMICHAEL Chandler. And just engage and a man and new years, Julie, I Open Ya started off. Gentlemen, I'll go. Okay, all right, se get a, though, and Brandon Morendo, man, that brandom and brand in the baby assassin. That was a war. That was Sush, a fucking beautiful fight. I just I remember watching it and just kind of being like I couldn't sit down, you know. I mean I was just like standing up the whole time, super excited. And then when he pulled off the wind, dude, that feeling like when he finally got that sub in, and then he like you just the motion after he was done with the fight, like it was just like man, he's gonna build a fucking Lego dead star after this, for sure. Yeah, and he became the first Mexican born UFC champion. Yeah, that was so he goes into history books. Yeah. So, yeah, that one for you. My favorite fight. That has to be my favorite fight of the year. All Right, let me go next. My my favorite fight of the year has to be Michael Chandler just engaged. Who Boy, good Lord. I mean I feel bad for their brains. I feel batter because they're gonna not have so many conversations with them in the near future. But Holy Shit, man, those two dudes slug the shit out of each other. There was no pullback other than that one time Gie Chandler shot in for a takedown. I guess he's the dusty bitch. ha ha ha ha ha he. It was just one shot and it was only for a moment. Other than that, he was slinging him to man. He he absorbed just as much as he gave Abbous. He gave that dish doubt, you know what I mean. But in the end, just like fucking...

...highlander, there can be only one and the winner was just engage, and that fight right there is the reason why he's gonna fight for the belt next. So that's my fight of the year, Michael Chandler, just engayge. Thank you, gentlemen. Yeah, I agree with Frank. That's also my fight of the year. I mean it was a slug fast from beginning to end. To wrestlers that boxed their asses off. They threw defense out of the window and just use their faces as shields, and I am thankful for that. I mean there are there was a total, if I'm not mistaken, a total of twelve knockdowns during that fight. Damn, I mean there were. It seemed to me a point when Chandler was going to end, gage, engage, you just came back and slugged it out and then seconds later it seemed like gage, he was going to end Chandler, and Chandler survived through it. So that is my fight of the year. It's it was the most memorable fight of the year for me. Maybe there's a little recency bias, but good fucking God, what an amazing fight. Can I do an honorable mention? Yeah, Sanhagen versus Peter Yawn, and the reason close second. I thought that fight was almost as intense but far more technical. San Hagan gave it just as good as he received it, and Peter Yawn just had a little bit more in the tank, just had a little bit better technique on the feet, and that little extra training helped him pull pull off the victory and he was able to capture the intern banom white title and now he's going to fight Algermain sterling to unify the belts. I think Peter he end beats of Shit. Astero, yes, they are, but that's it for me, guys. Let's get into the next car. Next category is MMA rookie of the year. NOWMINEES are Sham Brady, Patty pimblets Ury, Prochaska, Alex Pereta and Christians Hawaiian Punches Santiago. Who wants to go first? ME, Fonzo, I go. I gotta go with my homeboy, Christian Hawaiian punches man he's got to win, win streak right now, man. He's got one by knock out, one by sub can't wait for what he does next, man. That's what I'm talking about. Let me, let me piggy back off your pick, because my pic for MMA rookie of the year is also Christian. Hawaiian Punches Santiago, like I'll funso mentioned to fight. Winnie streak doing his thing and gladiator challenge, stepped up to the plate, put a submission on some for in the first round and King of the cage. Dan and I give this man of contract. Get them on your show. You're looking for fighters. He's the one, Eddie, who's your fighter of the year? Rookie of the year? I'm sorry, I'm gonna go with Christian Santiago as well. He has it all. He's well rounded. I think he could be a contender in the UFC within the next two to three years. He's definitely talented. Dana White, pay attention. Signed Christian Santiago. If you do, we will have you on this show, Dana White. So the gauntlet I thrown down. Can I? Can I give you my second place? Yes, yes, and pronounce and forgive me if I'm not pronouncing this correctly. Brazil zone, Alex Peditra. He is the last man to knock out Idi at Asnia, and now he's in the UFC and him and is he are on a collision course and from what I've seen in his first fight, it won't be that long before him and is he step in the cage and fight for the title. So how does is he do in the rematch? Does he does he knock him out and get revenge, or does Alex Pettity to have his number? So, Alex Pettita, he's second place for me. I think that by the time Alex Pareda gets his dragon filled in, it'll be time for a title shot against he'll need money. Then he'll be ready. All right, all right. Next category UP IS MMA KO of the year. First Ko nominee of the year was Dominic Ray is getting koled by your ti pulled Jaska catching an elbow from he'll. I think that was a fun yeah, cory sent he dropping a crazy knee on our boyfrienkie. Editor. I think that also was a fight night. I cried. Oh, me too, dude, Michael Chandler beating the not Dan Hooker, Dan Hooker yeah, and lastly,...

...rose, I'm a genus Kowen Way Lee Jang in their first matchup back in the beginning of the year. Fonzo, Ko of the year, what's your picture? You know what? I was thinking about this a lot and you didn't say my favorite. I have to go Usman masfit doll. That's my I that was just such a clean fucking right hand. It was. It was a satisfying into that feude, like yeah, as soon as I saw it land, I just I jumped up and it was just like yeah, it was just extremely satisfying, like it's nothing. Nothing could have been more perfect for that fight. That's a great pick. Man Drama, Fonso, about time you pull your thank you, Alfonso, for setting everything up, but you got to do more work. Frank you want to go next? Yeah, I'll go next. My peak for Ko of the year is a Euripu Jaska, when he knocked out dominic rays into the middle of two thousand and twenty two. Was it a vicious knock out, but I felt like it was a statement like, Dude, I'm fucking here and look at what I'm doing to the top contenders, because before that, dominic rays had fought for the title not too long before that. Yeah, went five hard rounds with John Jones. Look like he could be a contender. He hasn't been able to reach that level that he was at before. I don't know if it's because of the miles, I don't know. Maybe he's just training his hard, but Eurypepro Joska has shown us that this is what he does on the daily. I am excited to see what he does in two thousand and twenty two. And, like I said, man, I think this guy's going to be a contender and that is my Ko of the year, Eddie. Interesting fact after that fight, Frank Dominic Ray has changed his name to Monique. He was Koed so bad and now he works. And Anyway, my k over the year, just just for historical reasons, is a thug rows and I'm a junas knocking out way Lee. I was in their first fight. It was a head kick, beautifully set up. It was a left head kick straight to Wayley's dome and after Numa Junas won the fight, she became the first female fighter to win a title two times. So, just for the historical significance, I'm going to go thug rose and I'm a Junas Kowen Way Lee. All right, I was a good Koh man. Was Perfect, just perfect. You to know, it was like a sniper shot, that it was like all three, you know, one, two, boom out, instantaneously, left no doubt. Yeah, she's definitely one of my favorite fighters too, so it was incredible to see that happen for sure. All right, fighter of the year for MMA two thousand and twenty one, we have Charles Audivera, Kamaru Oostman, Brandon Moreno and Glober Toucheshera. You mind if I go first, general go. Hey, oh, go ahead, man. My fighter of the year is going to go to an Oldie, but a goodie, glover, to Sharon. This mother. This fool has been in the game for like as long as Alfonso's tinies have been around, man, a long time. Time and time again, they're just there. He's always there, hanging on, gives up, holding on by a thread. But, Dude, talk about putting your time in. This guy has fought the WHO's who and has come out on top time and time again. If you wipe out that Anthony Johnson Ko when he got demolished, I mean he's been almost bulletproof. You know. He took out yambolohovics like nobody's been shot in took him down, grounded pounder the crap out of did he get a supper? Did HE GMPM? I think he were. He aren't seed him, okay, yeah, but he peppered him up before the Oh, yeah, you know he cook that stuff, but up. Yeah, man, I fight of the year Glober to share for the oldies in the bit out there listening. You're never too old to become a world champion. Look at what he did. No matter what the people said about him, they were always downing him in every fight. I want to see. He was always picked as the underdog and each of his last three fights, but he came out on top with finishes most of the time. So fire of the year, glower to share it. WHO's next? Yeah, that's a difficult one for me, man. Charlie Olives has been. Yeah,...

...that's a pick. Has Been. You know, he's been tearing it up, man. I'm excited to see who what he's going to do next year and beyond. You know, Brandon Moreno, though, I mean, my God, man, I'm so excited to see what he does next. So between those two is really hard to pick. But if I'm going to pick one, you know just who's proven himself more like every single time he fights is Charles Olivera. So super excited to see him fight and just continue his career and see what happens next man. So he's just been one of those guys that I'm really excited for every time he he fights. All right, Eddie, you got for US fighter of the year. As a as an old guy who's still trains, I gotta go with glub or ticks share as well. I mean it's hard enough staying competitive in your early s, even more difficult staying competitive in your mid to late S. and not only this guy remained competitive and world class, but he the Cherry on top of his career was at age forty two when he defeated Yan. And let's not forget man, who yawn beat before that fight. He beat Israel out of Sonia. He beat a Dominic Grays, who came off a decision loss to John Jones, who arguably beat John Jones, and Yaan just beat the fuck out of those two guys. Glover comes, along with justice, belief that he could be world champion at age forty two. Everyone doubted him, he didn't get the memo, he got the takedown in the second or third round, beat the Shit Out of Yon and got the rare naked choke to become the oldest first time UFC champion and MMA history. So that is jover. I'm also forty two, so thank you for representing US old guys. All right, we got little age bias. One last MMA category for two thousand and twenty one, and that is sub mission of the year. We here at Jiu Jit del C to see you, guys know we're always looking for the sub so we're going to end MMA with submission of the year. So our nominees are Alfonso's favorite, Davidson, figurado gain for naked choked by Brandon Moreno, we got Paul Craig Turning Jamal Hill's arm into what was the name of that? So remember that toy back in the early S L S called Stretch Armstrong? Yeah, I do. He turned his arm into like fucking noodle man. Yeah, that was bad. We also have our bully, another old schooler, Clay Guida, getting the sub against Leo Santos. Right, HMM. And last but not least Anthony Hernandez cousin and subs. Anthony Hernandez subbing Rudolfo VRIETTE VIATA is our final submission for sub of the year. Gentleman, who would like to go first? Eddie Alfonso. Frank those were all good picks, frank but upon further thought, I gotta go with on Andre Munyaz subbing Jacote. Oh, he broke his arm. For those of us who are familiar with Jocote, Ronaldo, this Susa or so's A. Pardon me. He is one of the greatest submission grapplers of all time. He was on a real tear in his strike force in early UFC days. He was on a bit of a skid, but but nothing too bad. And then this kid comes out of nowhere, Andre Mounias, and breaks Jacqu got his arm. I mean one of the great I mean multiple time world champion, Jacquotte gets so D buy, someone I've never heard of not only gets sub gets his arm broken. To me that signified passing of the torch. The people that were champions in my childhood are no longer as competitive and and that foot fight put the stamp on that. So I'm going with Andre Muonias subbing jock got. It's nice. That's a good pick, man. Thank you. Yeah, and, like you said earlier, man, my pick is Brandon Morendo, Da Davison feed they though, like I just surprised motherfuckers can't Fondo. WHO's your favorite programmer of the year? Brandon Fred Morenna. WHO's your favorite race car driver? It's gotta be Brandon Morento. Sorry, that's a good pick, though. No, but for real, though,...

...it just, I mean, it was iconic, man, I can't, I can't say enough that whole the whole fight was iconic. And then just the submission and the way he got it. Yeah, it just great, great fucking submission. Chair car of the year the one Brandon Morento drives rain. Who is driving? My submission of the year is hands down Anthony Hernandez getting a sub against redolful of data, rodolful five time World Jiu jitsu champion, ADC CE gold medalist, gating sub by all fucking purple bell in the second round, a flabby purple belt. Yeah, I mean, it was just it was the worst of the worst, man, but you know what, shout out to Anthy Hernandez, Kudos to him and his cap into the deep waters. Maybe he didn't, who know what happened, but in the end he got the sub and he also gets my submission of the year. So that's all our awards for MMA. Take a little break here and let's jump into our JIU Jitsu awards next. All Right, we're picking it up with Jiu Jitsu awards twenty for two thousand and twenty one. We're going to start off with match of the year. Match of the your nominees Nicholas Metragali versus Victor Hugo in the ibjjf world's Papercio Andre Aboutista taking on Jamal Hill. We Got Roberto He mence k route Helo and Mason Fowler Davante Johnson. All right, eighty, what was your choice for match of the year? I gotta go with the Fresno Bread Mason Fowler taken on Davante, beating him an overtime, getting the takedown right at the end and becoming the ADCC trials winner. That was east coast trials, correct. Yeah, Mason, so bad gout. Mason into the a DCC, the Olympics of submission wrestling. So I think Mason fowlers ranked first or second in the ninety nine kilogram division, and it is a division full of killers. So I Mason Fowler has his work cut out for him. Man My pick for match of year. Little bit of controversy sprinkled in here, but it's going to be Nicholas Maragali versus Victor Hugo. Great match, really good match. Nicholas Murragali really hadn't been doing too much this past year, but showed up for worlds anyways. Victor Hugo been taking matches everywhere against anyone in Gie or Noogie and has been having a fuel day with submissions left and right, most recently sub Muhammad Ali in the ivjjf Grand Prix. He could not get his game going against Nicholas Murgali and then he ended up losing initially by two advantages, I want to say, but later got the w because Nicholas Murgali got disqualified for flipping off somebody in the crowd. Who knows, Jeez. Prior to that it was an awesome match and that is my choice for bjj match of the year. Next category, scrambler of the year, one of my favorite categories, one of my favorite acts in Jiu Jitsu. This is where just hey frank real quick. Yeah, okay, yeah, you're going to do it. I was going to ask you to describe what the like the perfect scrambler looks like. Yeah, I was a perfect scramblers just going to be someone who, either off of a takedown or off of a defending of a takedown, is able to create a scenario where they're able to use their athleticism, their explosiveness to either come up with a takedown or end up in an advantageous position. Once I start mentioning these nominees, because these guys exemplify what a scrambler is, you'll pretty much figure out what I what I mean by that once you figure out the Games here. So I'm starting with the giant slaver, the giant slayer, our boy, is to have on Martinez Dante Leone. I added both of the rudolttle brothers, Kate and tie, just because do by definition, they're just scrambling machines, you know what I mean. And last but not least, one of my all time favorites. He's not known for winning all the time, but damn is he going to put on a fucking show for you. And that's Cody Steel Eddie. Who Do you want? Who you're going to nominate for your scrambler of the year? I like the giants layer as Devon Martinez. He's constantly attacking. He there's never a moment where he's not going for an arm or a joke or a leg submission, and I just love that he's shortened stocky. He has a cool look to him and he just came out of nowhere. Like last year I didn't know...

...who he was, but just by watching his matches and talking to different JIU JETSU fighters, they're like, you got to check this guy out, and I'm glad I have, because Estabon Martinez a sensational so best of on. You're my samblad the year. So that's what's up. And you know what, giant slayer is also my scrambler of the year. Dude, just since the beginning of the year, every show he's been on, he has not disappointed. It doesn't matter if he's shooting for a takedown, defending a takedown, passing someone's guard. I mean he will even get his back taking and he's able to create a scramble or he gets out of that. Who the heck does that. He does each and every time, exciting matches to watch. If you have not watched any of his matches, check him out. And, by the way, he's also a two thousand and twenty one world Jiu Jitsu gold metal world champion, one by submission, by the way. In the finals he subbed everybody on his way to the gold medal round. Fuck, I was wrong if I'm not mistaken, but shout out a stabbed Martinez, the giant slayer Jiujit deals coast to coasts and twenty one scrambler of the year. Next category very similar. Lot of same game styles, a lot of same game plan but now we're talking strictly takedowns. So these gentlemen have used their American wrestling skills to the Max and have and their Jiu jitsu games have tremendously benefited by their wrestling. And sometimes it's just a straight up single leg double leg. Sometimes it results in a crazy slams. There's a guy in here who loves to slam people. Let's get to the nominees. takedown machine for two thousand and twenty one, our boy Mason Fowler, cody steel, Damonte and Kaide Rutolo eighty. Why don't you started off? Who is your two thousand and twenty one takedown machine of the year? It has to be Mason Fowler. He's got the single legs, he's got the double legs, he's got great snapdowns, great trips and from his takedown he goes straight into side control, takes the back. His Jiu Jitsu is amazing and to me it seems like his foundation is based on his takedowns. From his takedowns he's able to score actions and then once he secures side controller amount, you're pretty much dead man. So Mason Fowler takedown of the of the year. My pick for takedown machine of two thousand and twenty one also our boy, Mason Fowler. It's just the dude man. When he needs two points, he needs to win the match, he has no doubt, no no care in the world whether or not to stand up or not, because he knows it. Once he stands up, he's going to get those two points. He's so confident. Look at his mat his gold medal match against devante Johnson of in the east coast trials of ADCC this last year. It went down to the last second. Neither one of these guys wanted to give up. Neither one of those guys wanted to lose, but in the end, great and determination proved that Mason, his wrestling was just too much for Devante to take and he ended up winning by takedown. You know, I look forward to seeing Mason competed ATCC and look forward to more of his wrestling in his Jiu Jitsu. Man, love watching your matches, Bro keep it up. Next category we have is the new kid on the block. This is the new black belt on the scene, and some of these guys weren't even black belts when they started, but they started making a splash immediately. We're talking about a guy by the name of Mika Galvao. I'm not sure if you heard of him or not, but he started the year off as a brown belt and it has a black belt, another one of our favorites. We mentioned him a little while ago. The giant slayers to have have on Martinez out of zr team, Fabricio Andre Bautista Jr, first time world champion, congratulations, and Gabriel Sosa, who's had a number of awesome matches throughout this year with some awesome submissions, awesome titles he added to his belt. His name, Eddie, who was your rookie of the year? I gotta go with Mika Gelbow I mean I don't not only as a rookie, but just his jiujit against anybody, his accomplishment stack up. Let's start with this year. First Place AJP Abu Dhabi world pro which is the Gy version of ADCC. First Place AJP Grand Slam, second place on in. WHO's number one? And that's this year, guys. He barely became a black belt, something to be cognizant of. In two thousand and nineteen he was competing as a juvenile, as a yeah, yeah, and that's two years later.

He's arguably one of the most accomplished Gee grapplers in the world. So, having said that, Mika Gel vow, you're my rookie of the year. That's what's up. So my pick for rookie of the years. Mika got about. I mean this might be like a once in your and a lifetime type of acne. I mean, like Eddie just mentioned, two years ago he was competing against kids and now he's competing against the best of the best and he's winning. He might not be winning all of them, but he is winning and when he does he's killing it. He's got some subs against some major, major a major heavy hitters, and the Jiu Jitsu game, I mean he's already got a sub over leave by Jones. He's got a sub over espen mateen. He's kind of reminds me of our boy hanks to from navy times with Hank Henry. But deal, because he doesn't even do noogie. He's like off, I guess I'll do noogie today. And he's also killing it in noogie. One of the reasons he wasn't able to compete in I be jjf worlds this last month is because he hasn't been a black belt for long enough. But I would have imagined that if he would have been allowed to compete, he for sure would have meddled and it would have been awesome to watch. I'm excited to see what he does in two thousand and twenty two. Mika go VAL Jiujit deal coast to coast, unanimous decision for rookie of the year. New Kid on the block. Two Thousand and twenty one submission of the year. We have fabricio Andre Bautista subbing Jamal he'll Taylor in the gold medal round of IB jjf world we got Damian Anderson taking on Gabriel Sousa, winning by Heel Hook in Emerald city invitational earlier in the year. Also I mentioned this, Mika Gal Val subbing Levi Jones in the Abu Dhabi pro and, last but not least, a match that nobody thought would end this way, Gabriel Sosa submitting Mikey Moussamtchi, who, I want to say had not been sub in the ghee or noogie since he was a purple belt or something like that, but Gabriel Sosa was able to get him in a noogie match, I want to say was a north south choke. Those are our nominees for submission of the year. Eddie, what's your choice? My submission of the year is Yatta, sort of over Gabby Garcia, only because that is the first time Gabby Garcia has ever been submitted. Unbelievable. And Gabby Garcia had another match not too long after and she was submitted again and then retired, but Yada. So it's she'll be credited as the first person to submit. Multiple time world champion and a behemoth of a female Gabby Garcia so Yatta saw this. My submission of the years going out to Fabricio Andre Bautista Jr, who locked in a triangle like within the first two minutes of the match against gold medal or past gold medal winner, Jamal Hill Taylor, who ain't no slouch man. What a match, super explosive. They both came in. I look for a takedown. Babarricio, pool guard, want to say. He started playing like a little lasso and then, before you know it, his legs to secure a triangle and there was there's just no turning back. I couldn't believe how fast he sunk that in. I'm mean, I watched it over and over just to see how he set it up. Who I don't know if it was a reaction or if that was his game plan, but he pulled it off. To a tea and again fabrisio on to day but Tista Jr submiss triangle submission in the gold medal match of the IBJJF world. It gets no better than that. Dude. I'm not going to say it's coming out of nowhere, but he is new on the scene and looking forward to like I've been saying about a lot of these guys. Damn, I can't wait to see what he does next year. Man. Yeah, I'm excited this kid. He's a Juggernaut for sure. All right, we got one last category, and that is our jujititals, coast to coast Jujit deal of the year for two thousand and twenty one. We have our nominees, Gabriel Sosa, we have Mika Gal Val, Victor Hugo and Mikey Moosa Metchi. There's a lot of names out there that we could have added to this list, we didn't. Let's see who we go with, Eddie, who's going to be your your Jiujit deal of the year? Well, he's the guy that I picked as rookie of the year, Mika Galboll what he's accomplished and the people that he submitted. I mean, if you look at a picture of him, go online, look up Meka Galboo B jj, he looks like he's thirteen years old and he's...

...just destroying these fucking black belts that have been black belts for three to seven years, that were top of the world, and this guy's coming along as a rookie, just old enough to start competing and until Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It's like he's going to ask you to go play Robles or some shit. Yeah, he needs money for for the arcade, but he is a Badass motherfucker. He just his accomplishments alone. I don't think anyone's more accomplished than Mika Gel bow. So, Mika Guel Bell, you are my jets fighter of the year, sir, shout. And you know what I was asking myself this is there. has there been a time when the rookie of the year one like the MVP of a league? Yeah, I'm sure there has been, and this is the same scenario. Mika just blowing it up, looking really, really good against the top notch black belt, like Eddie mentioned, winning not, I don't not very many losses, but not only has he been winning, he's just been getting submission after submission. So my Jiujit Detto of the year award also goes out to Mika Gobow. Shout out, Mika. Keep doing what you're doing, brother, and we are excited and looking forward to Jiu Jitsu in two thousand and twenty two. Gentlemen, that's a fucking rap whoo. That was the most anti climactic champagne bottle popping I've ever heard my whole I imagine glass breaking behind you, frank and you getting cut all over. It would have been worth it.
